Hey, white guys of America. Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of complaints from you regarding people that at some point might have requested that you do the unthinkable and “check your privilege.” I know, those are some nasty words. Maybe someone didn’t even say it to you directly, maybe it was your friend that became victim to this cruel request, or maybe it creeped onto your tumblr dashboard. I just wanted to say that I am so, so sorry that you had to go through this. I realize it must have been really uncomfortable for you to be asked to recognize your race, class, gender, etc. and how those factors might give you power over others. I’m sure that the discomfort you felt having to read the words “check your privilege” on the internet surely surpassed any discomfort that marginalized groups of people experience every day. I mean, who do these people think they are? They’re not dying of starvation, and look, they even have access to computers!! They should just get over it, things could always be worse! Oh, and thank you so much for your insight on how said groups of people should deal with their oppressors. I mean, you might have said or done something that made them feel completely devalued, but they should only tell you in a way that you approve of. Someone demanding that you consider your privilege(s) is ridiculous, and definitely wouldn’t offer you the benefit of learning how not to make people feel like shit, or letting go of your misguided, possibly ignorant views. If those privilege-checking losers can’t confront you in a way that gives you the upper hand, then the best thing to do is just silence them all together. Yeah, I hear you brother. But hey, I guess the good thing is that you’ve already got the upper hand!
I’m going to shut up now, because you don’t need to hear any of this bullshit about considering other people. You’ve got better things to do, like blogging pictures of swastikas and making rape jokes (and oh god, don’t even get me STARTED on those oversensitive sexual assault victims).
